Berle Davis (Founder, Owner & Director) Over the years Berle has trained many Broadway and National Touring company performers. He has been nominated numerous times for Bay Area Theatre Critics' Circle Awards for outstanding choreography, and he has won the Award on eight different occasions. As a performer, Berle has performed the choreography of Gower Champion, Jerome Robbins, Onna White, and Carol Haney. Berle has also been honored by the San Mateo County Arts Council as Outstanding Individual Artist; he has received the Hillbarn Bravo! Award for Outstanding Contributions to Performing Arts in the Bay Area and the Barbara Bladen Porter Award for Achievement in Theatre by the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle. Berle is currently the resident choreographer for Broadway by the Bay.
Jayne Zaban (Co-Owner, Director of Ballet ) Jayne danced professionally with the Atlanta Ballet Company and has instructed many students who now have professional careers in theatre and dance. Jayne has choreographed productions throughout the Bay Area, including six seasons with 42nd St. Moon, Diablo Light Opera, Contra Costa Musical Theatre, Peninsula Center Stage, Hillbarn and Morris Bobrow Productions. She received two nominations for the BATCC, has been honored with the Garland Award and received the Dean Goodman Award for "Out Of This World" and a Shellie Award for "Anything Goes" for CCMT.
Jan Chandler (Jazz) Jan has been dancing since the age of 3 and she has taught at Dance Arts Center for more than 20 years. Jan has a strong background in tap, jazz, lyrical and ballet and performed professionally throughout California & abroad. Jan was a member of The Jazz Set under the direction of Berle Davis and she also was a member of the California Dance Team for AVIA/American Sporting Goods (TV, Stage and Conventions). Jan is the resident dance instructor/choreographer for Menlo School in Atherton, California. She is 1st. year Franklin trained and certifed in Pilates (Mat and standing).
Clarrisa Chun (jazz) Clarissa began dancing at DAC when she was 10 years old. She received the DAC dance scholarship as a high school student and continued her dance training at Chapman University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in dance and a minor in Japanese. She has taught tap, jazz, and musical theatre in the Bay Area and Orange County since she was 17. After spending two years in Japan as an English teacher Clarissa is excited to be back home and teaching at DAC.
Erin Cole (Hip Hop, Performance Class) Erin has been training at DAC since the age of 8. She is currently the resident choreographer of Ray of Light Theatre in San Francisco. She has directed & choreographed for both children & adults. She has performed extensively herself throughout the S.F. Bay Area.
Debbie Dahlberg (Tap) Debbie received her training in Tap, Jazz, & Ballet originally from Stanley and Pat Kahn, (Mason-Kahn Studios), and later continued with Berle Davis. As a former member of Youth of America on Stage, she performed with numerous headliners and traveled extensively. Her latest performances include Singin' in the Rain, Funny Girl, My Fair Lady, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, all with BBBay. Debbie recently experienced behind the scenes as Choreographer's Assistant for BBBay's Beauty & The Beast. Tap, being Debbie's passion, has given her the opportunity to teach in studios around the Bay Area, her favorite of course, Dance Arts Center!
Candy Cotton Farbstein (Ballroom) Candy has been teaching ballroom for 30 years. She began her training under the instruction of Imogene Woodruff and over the years has taught both private and group lessons, including two years at Brigham Young University that included a first place finish at the British World Open in Blackpool, England. She has worked with ballroom greats Buddy Schwimmer, Ron Montez, Roy Maver and Lee and Linda Wakefield. Candy developed her musical theatre training at DAC under Jayne Zaban and Berle Davis. She has performed in numerous musical theatre productions at Broadway By The Bay, Beach Blanket Babylon, TheatreWorks and American Musical Theatre of San Jose. Candy is married to Michael Farbstein and mother to Amanda, Corrie and Joey.
Gennine Harrington (Jazz) is thrilled to be teaching teen jazz classes at DAC. You may have seen her this past summer as Babette in Broadway By the Bay's Beauty and the Beast. When not teaching at DAC, Gennine enjoys teaching 4 th grade at St. Gregs and has directed/chereographed the Tri School productions for the past 9 years.
Jane Kellam (Mommy & Me) Jane was raised in her mother's dance studio in Chico, CA. In college, she was inspired by Cheryl McNamara to become a professional dancer. After discovering Berle & Jayne she danced in "The Jazz Set" for many years . Jane is the director of Show Biz Dance housed in Menlo Park at the community center. She is thrilled to be teaching for DAC.
Bibi Khalili (Hip Hop) Bibi's initial training came from watching popular music videos and mimicking the movements in front of her living room mirror. In high school, her interest for dance led her to choreograph for her high school Hip Hop dance team. College served as her introduction to the Bay Area Hip Hop scene. She danced with Idiom & Mind Over Matter before joining her current team - Funkanometry SF. With some background dance gigs and music videos under her belt, Bibi is currently pursuing her own dance career in Hip Hop, and prides herself in bringing new styles and movements to her students.
Haileigh McConnell (Comtemporary) Haileigh grew up in Southern California. She began her dance journey at a studio called Just Plain Dancing in Riverside, CA. She trained under coach and Choreographer Terri Shulke. She danced in benefit shows for such causes as Breast Cancer Awareness. She also studied at the Edge and at Foothill College with Bubba Gong. In addition, she is now studying Sociology at San Francisco State. She has been choreographing and teaching throughout her career.
Patti Stetson Michelsen (Jazz) Patti is very excited to be teaching at DAC again. Patti received her training at Dance Arts Center with Berle Davis and Jayne Zaban. She has been teaching and performing for many years throughout the Bay Area and California. Patti was a member of The Jazz Set under the direction of Berle Davis and a member of the Avia Dance Team of California. Patti is also certified by the American College of Sports Medicine.
Paige Cook Perez (Ballet/Jazz/Creative) Paige feels very blessed to be part of the DAC family. She has been teaching for over 20 years and specializes in teaching children, holding a degree in Early Childhood Education. Paige is a member of Actor's Equity Association and was awarded a Bay Area Theatre Critics award for her portrayal of Lina Lamont (Singin' in the Rain). She is most proud of her role as Mom to Gabriella.
